Executive Leadership
New Sloan must define new GM
James Womack, founder and chairman of the Lean Enterprise Institute, writes in Automotive News that the genius of Alfred Sloan in saving GM in the 1920s was to give customers a complete range of vehicles carefully arrayed in a status hierarchy, with brilliant attention to the look and feel of each product in relation to American tastes. The post-bankruptcy challenge is for a "new Sloan" or team like the one Sloan created to rethink GM's management and purpose and make it relevant to Americans again. (Published by Automotive News.)
